"Bête Noire is a collection of 13 multi-dimensional, dramatic, and truly unique, enigmatic shades that evoke every woman's hidden femme fatale... "

These shades are ultra-smooth, rich and highly pigmented. Photographs don't even start to capture the intensity and inter-play of the pigments, lowlights and highlights within these shades. These are incredibly complex, unique colors!

From Miss K's Blog:

"I just swatched these... I could only get the sparks to appear in sunlight, the effects present in these shadows are very hard to photograph! You'll have to see these in real life to enjoy their full visual beauty! The shimmer sparks in these is a pigment which is translucent and is extremely difficult to capture with photography, but very vivid in real-life. C'est la vie!"

amazing stuff!!

Comments:

i ordered just about all of these bad boys. and i'm loving them to death! the eyeshadow itself (not the sparks) is like liquid metal on all of these. just a tip, make sure you apply them wet and on a sticky base. otherwise the sparks will come off really easily. and be gentle when you buff them out. other than that they're amazing.
AMAZING

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the colors on this one. I agree with Kate that I"ll need to acquire full size in every color for this collection--you can make so many beautiful combinations!
Amazing Colours!
By Kate [AKA Hayley Jane] on August 29, 2009

Comments:

Wow, this collection is just gorgeous in person. I am determined to slowly accumulate all the colours in full size- every single shade is luxurious, dazzling, and lush.
collette rocks!!!
By magda on August 4, 2009

Comments:

the shade of this mineral eyeshadow is out of this world! so beautiful, sophisticated, bold and oh..so different. it's not blue, it's not purple...wonderfully beautifu on my brown eyes.
Wore Darcelle; Got complimented...
By Melissa S. on August 1, 2009

Comments:

A stranger said to me recently, "I love your eyeshadow! It's so pretty!" I happen to be wearing my new Darcelle foiled on the lid that day.

I was just so excited and flattered. This has never happened to me before. What a great shadow!

Comments:

I have most of these colors in sample baggies, though I haven't used all of them yet. I REALLY like Aurelie and Amarante (bought an FS); Collette is nice, and Viviane is pretty cool; Mireille I didn't like so much, but I don't think blueish-purple looks so good on me (even if it is my favorite color). Chantal is nice, though I haven't seen much of the purple in it; maybe I need to foil it. I'll comment on the others once I try them.
Wow
By Alex on May 1, 2009

Comments:

I liked this collection before, but the opposing sparklies weren't as noticeable as in the online swatches once applied. However, recently I have been applying these shadows wet and it really makes them more vibrant, just like the online swatches. Based on my moniter screen and the my samples, darcelle has a base color that is closer to ambre and not so much like amarante, viviane is more red-coppery and less purpley, and sabine is more coppery and less reddish. They are all great colors...I just recommend sampling and trying different applications for different effects.
P.S.
By Alex on May 1, 2009

Comments:

Forgot to say, Chantal seems to have a distinct greenish undertone to the grey base color. Hmmm, I remember that Kristen posted swatches of these somewhere on her blog, and I have posted swatches on the online forum.
Great Fun Colors!

Comments:

I ordered several samples from this collection and I love them all. Darcelle, and Solange are my two favorites, the multi colored shimmers in these makes them look like dragon fly wings.
A bit deceiving in my opinion...:(
By Juju on April 18, 2009

Comments:

I bought full sizes of Bette, Colette, Darcelle, and Chantal. I bought them based off of the picture provided on the web page, but when I received them, they were not the same on as they were in the picture. They were beautiful, dont get me wrong. Just not what I had expected based on the photo. Thats all. I would still like to try Jolie, Mireille, and possibly Amarante though.
Great, but not for me
By Arien on April 15, 2009

Comments:

These shadows are very nice, rich and shimmery. I bought a full sample set to try them all, and I'm glad I did order the samples and not the FS as I wated to do initially. The colours are lovely, but I find that a lot of them look very similar on me when dry, and only through foiling I can bring out the full spectrum. The quality is fantastic, on parr with everything else from AL, but the colours themselves just don't work on me, and I find I pass on them for others more often than not.
Darling Dark Collection
By Decorative Diva on March 22, 2009

Comments:

I love this dark and sparkling collection from Aromaleigh. My must have shades are Mireille and Bette. I find myself reaching for Bette again and again as it's a beautiful steel grey crease color. Kristen has outdone herself with this darling dark collection.
Colette
By Dione on February 26, 2009

Comments:

Based off the picture on the site it wasn't one I wanted to try. But I got it as a sample in my first order and I LOVED it!! I came back and ordered a full size. I like many of these colors and have ordered quite a few samples. Can't wait to play with more of them!
Rocks my socks
By gothchiq on February 22, 2009

Comments:

I got Viviane. I am sure I will buy more of them. Talk about deep...and multicolored...and really wearable even though it's so dark and dramatic. This is every goth girl's dream!
Too glittery for me but the colors are pretty
By Holly on February 7, 2009

Comments:

I hate to admit it, but I'm just not a big fan of the Bete Noire shadows. I have a handful of samples in my stash and while the colors themselves are lovely, there's just too much glitter in these for me.

I know that a lot of people love glitter and shimmer, but I tend to prefer a smoother finish without visible glitter. It's a personal preference issue and doesn't mean that these are bad shadows, because they're not. They're just not for me. But that's what sampling is for! :)
Surprisingly Versatile!
By Jennifer on February 2, 2009

Comments:

These colors may look very dark and sparkly in jar, but they are surprisingly versatile! Most of these colors make excellent crease and liner colors. I am very pale so most of them are too bold to use a lid color; however, Aurelie does make a lovely copper lid color for me. Most of these colors have a smokey undertone, and you can vary your application techniques to change the color -- pat the eyeshadow onto a primer for a colorful, sparkly look, or heavily blend the shadow to allow the smokey grey undertones to show through! In addition to Aurelie, I also like Viviane, which seems to shift between a lovely burgundy and a plum purple depending on how the light hits it, and Chantal and Colette, both of which I love to wear in the crease paired with Prim Tweed Eye Plush on the lid for a subtle smokey look! And Mireille is a lovely purple shade that has enough pink tones so that it doesn't look like I have a black eye (which tends to happen when I try to wear cooler purples)!

Overall, a great collection with a lot of versatility!

I'm in love with the Bete Noire collection! The multi-dimensional, complexity and depth of the colors are simply stunning.
Beautiful surprise!
By Cheryl on January 31, 2009

Comments:

This stuff looked scary in the jar to this 54-year-old, but it makes a gorgeous liner, and I even used it as a crease color. Very pretty!
PRETTY
By Carole on January 25, 2009

Comments:

These come in 3 awesome pinks I love.
I use them on the lid to bring out the greeen in my olive green eyes.
I like them very much, but thye are more sparkly than the Elemental Lustres,
and I prefer those, but, alas, no pinks in those.
These are very stimulating in colors and a good buy! You can't miss at Aromaleigh.

The eye shadow is sparkly and dark red just the color i've been looking for. It makes me look dark and beautiful.
Love these!
By Georgia on January 16, 2009

Comments:

I wish I had ordered all of these. I have darcelle, colette, amarante, chantal, and bette. They are all very beautiful. Chantal doesn't have quite as much purple/pink/plumness as the photo on my monitor, but it is still beautiful. I plan on buying the rest of these shadows very shortly....
intense and dramatic
By Kathy on December 8, 2008

Comments:

I ordered about 4 of the colors i this collection and now I wish I had ordered the sample set so I can try the others. They are flattering and dramatic. I love Solange and wore it to a holiday event and received many compliments.
More amazing colors
By Janelle on December 8, 2008

I have full sizes of collette, darcelle, and chantal. They are gorgeous colors that smooth on beautifully and have the added amazing flecks of color. Love them.
ambre <33
By yujun on December 6, 2008

Comments:

i bought a sample of ambre.

i love ambre!!!!!
i was impressed by the gothic lolita eyeshadows i bought, but somehow the more aromaleigh you buy the better and better it gets.

i pair is up with my brown eyeliner and use brown contact lens and it makes my eyes very very very pretty!!

usually i am afraid of goldish eyeshadows as most are too light and make my crease 'disappear' giving making me eyes look smaller and a little slitty and i don't fancy this kind of look.

but ambre doesn't give me the effect, it does the opposite! it makes my crease more pronounced and it's very nice!!! i love it to death~~~

now i want to try out other colours! i have a feeling this would soon be my first foray into green colours! (green is another colour i am afraid of. but the greens here are more olive and very pretty!)
Wow!
By Michelle on December 2, 2008

Comments:

These have to be the best colors so far! They are highly pigmented as all of AromaLeigh's. I used Amaranthe which is so beautiful..little flecks of blue within the green....just LOVE IT!
Jolie!!!
By T on November 29, 2008

Comments:

I just love Jolie...such a beautiful color! I have green eyes, and this shade seems to make them POP!
love em
By Alex on November 27, 2008

Comments:

Well, my favorite is Darcelle because it is one of those greens I can actually wear... And Chantal is interesting. It actually looks a bit greenish to me, so it looks like greenish grey with purple sparks. Pretty neat!
Love Colette!
By EagleEyes on November 20, 2008

Comments:

Love Colette! Grape matte is a color that I want to smear all over my lids, but it's too dramatic for the entire area. (best for me as a liner or in the crease.)

Colette gives me that same feel of that rich yummy color, but the sheerness/sheen/etherial look makes it completely wearable alone. Almost don't need mascara.
Colette on my daughter's blue eyes - mesmerizing.
By Teresa on November 15, 2008

Comments:

My beautiful blue-eyed daughter wore Colette yesterday and I couldn't stop staring at how unbelievably gorgeous it was on her! She's only 12 but I do allow her to wear e/s applied lightly, a little mascara and gloss. All of her friends are awestruck by her amazing multi-colored AL collection. Oh, and while I'm bragging on her beauty, she's also very smart - she's always on honor roll - yes, I think brains and beauty deserve AL.

Isabella says, "Thank You, Kristen". :)
amazing colors
By yoyo on November 13, 2008

Comments:

this is my first time trying out Aromaleigh shadows and I'm so impressed! the texture is great, they are actually creamy to the touch, which is great for the sensitive eye area, lots of iridescence that stays and the colors are to die for, bright and complex at the same time.
Lovely, dark and complex
By Ornate Oddities on November 8, 2008

Comments:

These colors are wonderful. They're complex, multi-faceted and beautiful. They're a dream to apply and blend. The color descriptions are wonderfully accurate and really the pictures don't do the colors justice. You should definitely try these beautiful dark gems.
Breathtaking!
By Loida on November 4, 2008

Comments:

I too own a vast collection of mineral makeup, the most being from Aromaleigh, and I must say this new collection is the BEST! I can't really top the descriptions the above reviewer, Jennifer, made. She's right on. I just dived in and bought the whole collection... didn't need to sample these babies. They're so multifaceted, like jewels. Thanks, Kristen, you totally outdid yourself for sure.
Stunning...Beyond Words
By Jennifer on November 1, 2008

Comments:

I just received my sample set for this collection, and all I can say is that every single color here is incredible... they are some of the most amazing colors I have ever seen (and I have many, many shadow colors in my collection). The description is correct: the true beauty of the colors is not shown in the picture. In person, the base colors are deep and myseterious, but they shine with a million little colored stars. The color pairings of base with sparkle within each shadow are unusual but absolutely perfect. Pinks with greens/browns, bronzes within deep grey... these are a study in the unexpected. Yet despite the deep mysterious character, they can be worn both day and night depending on what they are paired with and how they are applied. Just totally, completely amazing! Even my husband, who usually doesn't really care about makeup colors, oohed and ahhed over the swatches I did of these... you *will* get attention when wearing them.
