About Kristen- Aromaleigh's Creator

I love pink eyeshadow.

Yes, we are located on an island (long story...). Hilton Head Island. Lots of people vacation here. Tons of people live here. Hilton Head Island is a kooky place that doesn't move at the pace of the real world or have the same rules. I call it the "Island of Misfit Toys" or
"Hellton Head", if it's too hot to breathe, too much traffic to move and there's snakes and lizards and alligators in my backyard.

Inspiration: My love of the arts, nature and popular culture has a very strong influence on my work at Aromaleigh. I'm constantly researching. As an artist, I am visually influenced by the world in a manner which translates into a whole experience for me... I might find new colors or concepts in something as simple as a cup of coffee or a flower... or as complex as a painting, a new CD or a great book.

Current Favorite Quote: "Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself" (George Bernard Shaw)

Past Lives : (And there are many...!) At 17, I left home and embarked on an educational maze that left me with an AAS in Fine Art Photography, a BFA in Advertising Photography and an MFA in Visual Arts/Graphic Design from Rochester Institute of Technology. A saturated job market in NY left me modelling, waiting tables and bartending for a small eternity...

Then I got a big break- I was hired as an Art Director for Saatchi & Saatchi Business Communications. Four restless years later, I left there and started my own graphic design and art direction business, working for many different Advertising agencies and local businesses.

It was during this time that I completed my studies with Kurt Schnaubelt and the Pacific Institute of Aromatherapy. I travelled to California several times on those unforgettable trips to the San Francisco area, where the combination of the geographic area and the intensity of what I learned was simply magical. I submitted my proposals for my Master's Thesis in Aromatherapy and it was accepted. When my first book, "Holistic Aromatherapy for Animals", was published, it also functioned as my Master's Thesis.

In the midst of all of this, I brought Aromaleigh Inc. from a small aromatherapy side business to an online entity... and what an interesting ride it has been! I am very involved in all aspects of my business, working daily "in the trenches" and keeping tabs on all aspects of the business.

As a spokeswoman for Aromaleigh, I am on my Mac daily, answering emails to customers, posting on our customer forum and keeping "Miss K's Blog" active with new products, sales and beauty tips. "Miss K" is sort-of my fashion alter-ego, or a cartoon version of myself... she keeps me from taking myself too seriously!

Miss K, as drawn by tiredfairy on our forum... she really does look like me!

My mission: Helping other women feel good about themselves and reap the benefit of natural products, with formulations and colors that are good for the skin and contain ingredients that the average person can actually pronounce.

Subliminally forcing you to have fun with color!

Helping you realize that age is juuuust a number... (really!)

Born in : Scranton, Pennsylvania

Beauty Advice: Don't sunbathe! Wear big shades with UVA/UVB protection, slather on sunscreen daily, don't drink alcohol or smoke, drink lots of water, use Vitamin C products and lots of moisturizer (everywhere!) and don't be afraid of "good fats". Don't fear color- think outside of the box! Express yourself- even if other people look at you funny. Consider the fact that they might have poor taste... And of course, wear mineral makeup!
